About this listen

The unpause-able novel of one man's quest to find the source of his nightmare and to reverse it before he becomes...nothing at all. This number-one national best seller from Stephen King, writing as Richard Bachman, "pulsates with evil...it will have you on the edge of your seat" (Publishers Weekly).

Billy Halleck commits vehicular manslaughter when his lack of attention results in the death of an old gypsy lady on the street. Overweight Halleck is a lawyer with connections, though, and he gets off with a slap on the wrist. After the trial, the victim's ancient father curses him with a single word: "thinner". Shedding weight by the week, Halleck is desperate enough for one last gamble...one that will lead him to a nightmare showdown with the forces of evil melting his flesh away.

With an introduction by Stephen King on "The Importance of Being Bachman", Thinner is a novel of "undeniable suspense" (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution) and "genuine chills" (Kirkus Reviews).

The book is great, the narration is decent, but whose idea was it to put in the awful music? I really hope they release a version without it.

The music ruins it

One of my favorite Stephen King stories. It eats at your core and doesn't let go from start to finish.

Simple yet mezmerizing

I would recommend this book as a good, scary and very original creepy King book. The narrator is almost perfect, but like most male narrators trying to do women's voices, those parts are annoying and almost sound like a mean parody of how a woman speaks. The music at the beginning of each chapter adds nothing, goes on too long, and is unappealing. All those negatives being said, I would still say this book is worth a listen.

One of King's best, but the "bumper" music is distracting and outdated

The story was riveting and had reminiscent feelings of "The Monkeys Paw". Not that it was a copy of plot in anyway. Just the feeling. The vibe, dig.

OMG, Joe Mantegna, OMG!!! He narrates this story beautifully. I was so impressed and enjoyed every second of listening to his voice paint these extremely memorable characters.

And the story ends in the true Stephen King as Richard Bachman style. Fans will know what that means. I appreciate and like the distinct difference.

This was one of the greats!

I listen to audiobooks when I ride my bike or doing chores around the house. A book of this length would take a couple weeks to get through. Thinner is such a great creepy story and Joe Mantegna narration is excellent. It helps that Joe was in the Stephen King Thinner movie in the 1990’s and his voice brings the movie, the book and your imagination together to create a nonstop freak show tale into the twisted strawberry pie terror of Thinner.

Finished over the weekend

the other reviews warned me but even then it was shocking to hear just how obnoxious the music was at the end of every chapter. great story though. a classic from my childhood
