About this listen

The breakout author of The Forgotten Girl and Cemetery Girl, "one of the brightest and best crime fiction writers of our time" (Suspense Magazine) delivers a new novel about a man who is haunted by a face from his past.

When Nick Hansen sees the young woman at the grocery store, his heart stops. She is the spitting image of his college girlfriend, Marissa Minor, who died in a campus house fire 20 years earlier. But when Nick tries to speak to her, she acts skittish and rushes off.

The next morning the police arrive at Nick's house and show him a photo of the woman from the store. She's been found dead, murdered in a local motel, with Nick's name and address on a piece of paper in her pocket. Convinced there's a connection between the two women, Nick enlists the help of his college friend, Laurel Davidson, to investigate the events leading up to the night of Marissa's death. But the young woman's murder is only the beginning...and the truths Nick uncovers may make him wish he never doubted the lies.

Would you consider the audio edition of Somebody I Used to Know to be better than the print version?

The print might be okay, but I enjoyed listening to Nick think things out in his head and the narration was pleasing to listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite was Nick, but I also liked Detective Reese...he sounded "crusty"....a real cop.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Nick "got" Heather after all those years!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It's like Grisham meets Harry Bosch!

Any additional comments?

So many surprises....never saw some of them coming. Wow! It's a great read!

Suspense...what's next?? Not what you think!

It's a nice story, nice plot etc. I don't have strong feelings about it and I think the author went overboard trying bend everything into a twist but it was still enjoyable.

A nice drama

I really enjoyed this book. I knew right from the beginning how it would end, but I was wrong! Every time I thought I had things figured out, the story would turn and go in a different direction. I'm not going to give anything away in this review because I hope you'll listen to it too.

Lots of Twists & Turns

While the plot got a little far-fetched, the very good narration and the pacing kept this story moving interestingly along. One of my better recent selections, and very good for a long drive or a day in the garden.

A pretty good read

The narrator for this audiobook was absolutely outstanding. His voice rose and fell at all the right moments, his pacing was excellent and at no point did I struggle to understand him. I rate the narration at 5 out of 5 Stars. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

you see someone who looks just like your (first love) girlfriend of 20 years ago, who is dead!
Has your past caught up to you.....is it cosmic karma? Nick will soon find out.... but in the meantime is suspected of murder, plays detective and solves the crime(s)!
Because you know the police can't! (ha) Yes, you have to suspend belief a bit, but its all good! A great 'what if' tale, great narration and characters.
