great book

realistic and three-dimensional characters, looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series. very interesting glimpse into lives and times, a good mix of both action and historical fiction.

Great Listening

truly enjoyed the book as a date book with my wife look forward to going through the next four together with her.

loved it. well written, and well read. both the author and the narrator combine to draw you into their world, where you feel the characters emotions, and become personally invested in many of them

Another Conn Iggeldon winner

Having finished Iggeldon's six book Conquerer series about Genghis Khan, I was looking forward to having thre Emperor series still ahead of me. My initial thought was that this story can't possibly be as interesting as the story of Genghis, but it holds its own.

I'm writing this review having finished the whole series, and like the Conquerer series I'll rate the Emperor series as a whole, and as a whole it's a great story, well executed, and well performed. It's hard for me to imagine that anyone could possibly read this first book of the series and stop. If you buy this download, I guarantee you'll be buying the next three, and if you haven't read the Conquerer series, you'll be buying six more on top of that. You'll wish there were more.

an absolute joy of a listen from the first line. rich history and endearing characters!

Riveting

Conn Iggulden is my new favorite historical fiction writer, up there with Clavell, and Michener. His writing is gripping and the characters become very real to the imagination. The story flows and is hard to step away from. And what an ending!

Another believable historical writing

Each character's voice was well portrayed by Glenister. Thank you again Mr. Iggulden for an enjoyable listen.

Good fiction

I enjoyed the ability to learn about Julius Caesar and his young years and still have a fictional quality to it. That made it extremely interesting. Looking forward to book two.

He is one of the top performers I've listened to. Hopefully there is an annual poll that allows us to nominate top voices such as his.

Don't get this for historical accuracy. Get it for the entertainment value. It's not sophisticated, and terribly inaccurate, but, with this in mind, it entertained my during my daily commute.

Of particular note, the performance was first rate.
