About this listen

New York Times Bestseller

Do you dare step through the red door? Spencer Grant had no idea what drew him to the bar with the red door. He thought he would just sit down, have a slow beer or two, and talk to a stranger. He couldn’t know that it would lead to a narrow escape from a bungalow targeted by a SWAT team. Or that it would leave him a wanted man.

But now Spencer is on the run from mysterious and ruthless men. He is in love with a woman he knows next to nothing about. And he is hiding from a past he can’t fully remember. On his trail is a shadowy security agency that answers to no one - including the U.S. government - and a man who considers himself a compassionate Angel of Death. But worst of all, Spencer Grant is on a collision course with inner demons he thought he’d buried years ago - inner demons that could destroy him if his enemies don’t first.

The story is great, the narration was awesome. I enjoyed the experience very much!

Great Listen!

No lush metaphors, no atmosphere, no character development. A sophomoric presentation of an important message. Ghost writer? Not “Koontz”, one of my very favorite writers.

Not “koontz”

the story was ok. The narrator was very good. The writing was too drawn out. While trying to set up the scene, the author seems to be over writing. His descriptions are just too long. i found myself fast forwarding in 30 second chunks, and he was still describing the same scene. There's only so many ways to picture a rock formation. It shouldn't take 3 minutes. Sometimes less is more. It was just over done. And the story line lost it's way
The ending was done hastily. After listening to 21 hours, I expected a more dramatic ending. It was bland at best. Not Deans best work.

Its long

One of his best. Highly recommended as the reader will not be disappointed - the only disappointment is that the book eventually ends.

Classic Koontz

koontz has some that are hard to get through and others that are just amazing, this one was amazing great story, and story telling
seems to have a bit of a hint at a book 2. these koontz books make me always give all his books a chance worth it.

I really liked this one

A fun, if at times dull, story. Overall there was enough good to keep me entertained but found myself going back quite a lot because my mind drifted. The narrative was ok when he stuck with his own voice. When trying to sound like one of the black men, he comes off sounding like Arnold Schwarzenegger... his British accent was a painfully bad Australian imitation and don't get me started on his southern accent and New Orleans plus many others he tried while reading a character who was known for his great many accents... these were painful to listen too, almost wishing I could find my old copy of the book(I did read this many years ago when it first came out, but could not remember much of it, now I know why) and just read through this parts. I just don't feel this was one of Kontz's finest. There are so many others I'd recommend before this one.

Hard to remember

An entertaining thriller with good vs. evil and good triumphing in the end—and a good boy dog who is braver than he thinks. Never lie to the dog!!

Entertaining adventure

I loved it. It was hard to turn off. I would listen to this before anything else.
