About this listen

Just back from her second tour in Afghanistan, NYPD Detective Chiara Corelli goes undercover to expose a ring of dirty cops. But when she's ordered to kill to prove her loyalty, she aborts the operation without having identified the leaders. Now, Corelli is the one exposed. With her brothers and sisters in blue ostracizing her, can she trust Detective P. J. Parker to watch her back?

Parker is the daughter of a vehement critic of the NYPD. But that doesn't stop her from wanting to work in the homicide division. And wanting to learn from the best. Unfortunately, Chiara Corelli is the best....even if she is the most hated detective in the department.

Without Parker, Corelli will be condemned to desk duty. Corelli is Parker's only chance to work in homicide. Will the two women put aside their fears and join forces to solve a brutal murder and identify the leaders of the dirty cops before they get to Corelli's family?

I liked how two storylines ran throughout and kept me interested in what happened next. Just when you think you know who the killer is then you don’t. I was afraid the story would end as a cliff hanger but it doesn’t.
I’m glad these characters will move into another book though.
Also wasn’t sure what to expect when I read in reviews there’s no “traditional”romance between MCs meaning no sex. Sorry if that’s what you’re after. I will tell you, I love my romance/sexy novels ! But admittedly this was extremely well written and of course performed by Abby Craden where I didn’t notice there was no sexy parts.
I’m in and a now a fan. Love the lead detectives being smart, ambitious, gutsy lesbians who are respected for doing their jobs well. Two thumbs up

A really good “who dunit”

I would easily recommend this to mystery fans. I read the books and am now listening my way through the series and enjoying it just as much if not more. Only tiny complaint is about Abby, shocking I know as she is in the top of my favorite narrators but she was struggling with pronouncing the name Corelli. The main character is a detective so her last name Corelli was used 90% of the time. Some times Abby said Corelli but many times it sounded like Car-Lee, or sometimes I could not even make out what the name was supposed to be. I’ve never heard Abby struggle so much with a name in a narration before and it was just odd for me. She did narrate all 4 books so I’m keeping my fingers crossed this was just a hiccup and the next book will be that great Abby Craden style.

Great mystery series

What a fabulous read! I listened to A MATTER OF BLOOD on audible, and I highly recommend it to fans of mysteries, thrillers and police procedurals .

Maiorisi has crafted an airtight mystery. Chiara Corelli, like all great detectives, comes with baggage, and is a highly compelling character. I'll definitely be reading or listening to the next one in the series.

An Airtight Mystery

I loved the complexity of the main character and the case she was trying to solve. I am hooked. I hope that she and Brett get together. I just bought the 2d book in the series.

Great Murder Mystery!

Liked the characters and the detailed layers that made them. Interesting back story and family in background for most of the characters.

Who dunnit piece got a little overdone.

Engaging detective genre

the story is excellent, the narration is better than excellent, but there is NO romance, could it be that there will be a sequel?

Excellent book

I just finished listening to “A Matter of Blood (Chiara Corelli Mystery #1)” by Catherine Maiorisi and I loved it.

This is a very good old school murder mystery set in New York City with a great audiobook narration by Abby Craden.

The story is about an emotionally damaged homicide detective (Chiara Corelli) who is not likable at first, but the more we learn about her the more sympathetic she becomes.

Corelli is assigned the investigation of the murder of a wealthy Wall Street executive who everyone hates so there is an abundance of possible murder suspects. While she researches the case there is also a second plot line which includes corrupt cops operating in the background. So the story digs into the background and history of Corelli, the investigation of the murder, and the actions of the dirty cops. Plus, the New York City neighborhoods are so well described that they become an additional character in the story.

I totally recommend “A Matter of Blood” by Catherine Maiorisi if you want to read an effectively plotted murder mystery with well developed characters, hidden secrets, suspense, and action.

I just downloaded the second book in the series and am looking forward to listening to it!

Well written police procedural with a sapphic lead

Interesting insight into the world of law-enforcement, and exposure in the US military middle east. Touches on what it actually means to be in both worlds, without going into critical/traumatic details. But allows the reader to understand that to be in either of those worlds does not leave anyone untouched. Gripping. Insightful. I need to save up my money to get the rest of the series now! And Abby is the best in the business for reading, and performing, and bringing to life the authors vision. Just loved this, and looking forward to the rest of the series.

Gripping and holds your attention from word one to the very last sentence
